Homemade Liquid Dish Soap Recipe

There are many non-toxic homemade dish soaps out there that require many ingredients- the main ingredient being a grated bar of castile soap.

I spent a few months taking the time to make some of these recipes. Although they weren’t difficult to make, I didn’t necessarily find the process enjoyable. And, I certainly wasn’t going to spend an arm and a leg to buy a completely natural dish soap!

Most of the power from these homemade soaps came from a bar of castile soap that was then liquified. So, I began to wonder- couldn’t I just use liquid castile soap for dish soap?

Lo and behold, I discovered that most bottles of liquid castile soap have directions printed right onto them for using liquid castile soap as dish soap.

Once I tried it for myself, I was convinced that using liquid castile soap was the way to go!

Here’s my Homemade Liquid Dish Soap Recipe; I hope that you enjoy it too.

Why homemade liquid dish soap?

Most dish soaps are full of toxins and ingredients that may very well be doing us more harm than good as humans.

Liquid dish soaps that use completely natural ingredients often cost far more than most people are willing to spend.

Thus, a beautiful solution is found by making your own homemade liquid dish soap.

This recipe is particularly perfect because it is natural and doesn’t take much time at all to make!

Sourcing Ingredients

There are a variety of castile soaps out there on the market, with the most well-known castile soap being Dr. Bronner’s.

Dr. Bronner’s works perfectly well. However, it isn’t quite as clean or “natural” as I would like for a dish soap.

At this point, the cleanest liquid castile soap that I have found is Azure Standards castile soap. (Bonus- it’s a great price too!)

If you choose to add an essential oil to your dish soap, I encourage you to choose one that is 100% pure and clean. I personally use Revive Essential Oils.

Note: I am not an affiliate for Azure Standard, Dr. Bronner’s., or Revive Essential Oils. I’m simply sharing what I use!

Best Essential Oils to add into homemade liquid dish soap

  • Lemon: Lemon essential oil offers a fresh scent and assists the soap in cutting through grease and grime. Grapefruit and orange essential oils boast similar properties.
  • Tea Tree: Tea Tree oil has great antibacterial and antifungal properties. Peppermint oil is great for this too!
  • Lavender: Lavender oil has a pleasant and relaxing smell.
  • Rosemary: Rosemary has a fresh, herbal scent.
