Holding The World's Best Chocolate Chip Cookies 1

I remember actively deciding that I did not like chocolate chip cookies as a child.

Sure, sometimes I would eat a chocolate chip cookie that I enjoyed, but most of the time I just wasn’t that impressed with them. They were always either too hard, too soft, or they simply had a funny taste to them.

I carried this mild dislike of chocolate chip cookies into my early adult life. A chocolate chip cookie was always the last thing that I would choose, whether I was at a social gathering or doing some baking.

However, one day I stumbled upon this cookie recipe from joyfoodsunshine.com. The recipe promised to be everything that I had been looking for in a chocolate chip cookie. So, I decided to give this recipe a go.

Oh boy, it did not disappoint.

I fell in love with this recipe upon first bite. The cookie had a lovely crisp on the outside, and the inside was with filled with warm, chocolatey, gooey goodness. It truly was everything that I had ever dreamed about in a chocolate chip cookie.

Everyone that I have given these cookies to has told me that they are the best cookies that they have ever eaten. Even my husband (who rarely eats my baked goods) eats these cookies by the handful.

With that being said, I think that it is safe to say that this cookie recipe is truly The Word’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookies.

Notes on the Original Recipe

I must admit that I did change one minor thing to these cookies: I decreased the amount of chocolate chips in them.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love chocolate just as much as the next gal. However, I wanted all of the amazing flavors in this cookie to shine, and I just didn’t feel like they could with the original recipe’s amount of chocolate.

What’s the secret to making the world’s best chocolate chip cookies?

There are three main secrets to making the World’s Best Chocolate Chip Cookies.

1. Use high-quality ingredients.

Higher quality ingredients = higher-quality cookies. Go ahead and spend a little extra money in order to get the nice flour, chocolate chips, and sugar (etc.).

Also, double check that none of the ingredients are expired as well. Make sure to especially double check the baking soda and baking powder.

Baking soda and baking powder are known as leavening agents. It’s the leavening agents that allow the cookies to rise and develop a nice texture. The cookie will most likely end up flat and dense if the leavening agents are expired or not working properly.

2. Form your cookies into a nice ball without flattening them.

I made the mistake of slightly flattening the cookie dough before baking once. I never did it again.

Now don’t get me wrong- the cookies weren’t horrible. However, the cookies were flatter than they should have been. Flattening the cookies prevented them from developing that soft and gooey middle that we are aiming for.

However, this may be the way to go if you do prefer a harder cookie!

3. Do not overbake the cookies. (the most important secret!)

These cookies should be taken out of the oven as soon as they begin to turn brown.

It is so easy to leave the cookies in the oven longer than the recommended time in fear that they are not done yet, but I am warning you: don’t do it

Cookies continue to cook for up to 5 minutes after being taken out of the oven. So, leaving the cookies in the oven any longer than the recommended time will result in over-baked cookies. And, an over-baked cookie equals a hard and sad cookie.

When can I tell that my cookies are finished baking?

Did you know that cookies continue to bake for up to 20 minutes after being taken out of the oven?

This is why it is so important to take your cookies out of the oven as soon as they begin to turn brown.

I learned this while working at a bakery back in high school. My boss would always remind me to take the cookies out of the oven if they begin to slightly brown. I was to let them finish cooling on the pan from there.

Now, in most home kitchens there is not an unlimited supply of baking pans. This means that the cookies typically need to finish cooling/baking on a cooling rack, and that is alright! (But do allow the cookies to settle on the pan for 1-2 minutes before moving them to a cooling rack.)

So, when do we know that it is time to take the cookies out of the oven?

Well, take it from a professional- remove the cookies as soon as they begin to brown (even just slightly). The cookies will be fully baked once they have had time to fully cool.

Can the chocolate chip cookie dough be frozen?

Yes, this cookie dough freezes wonderfully!

In fact, I usually have some of this cookie dough in the freezer at all times. It makes a wonderful treat for last minute guests or for a spur-of-the-moment snack.

Freeze this cookie dough by shaping it into balls and placing the balls onto a baking sheet (as if you were going to bake the cookies). However, instead of placing the cookie dough in the oven, place it in the freezer until the dough is frozen. Freezing the dough on a baking sheet prevents the cookie dough from freezing together.

From there, you can place the frozen cookie dough balls into an airtight container or bag. Store them in the freezer until you are ready to bake.

Once you are ready to bake the cookies, place the frozen cookie dough onto a baking sheet. Then, put the frozen cookie dough into a cold oven. Turn the oven on to 350*F and set a timer for 15 minutes. The cookies should be finished baking once the timer goes off.

Placing the frozen cookie dough in the oven while the oven warms up gives the cookies a chance to begin thawing before they really start baking. It is important to note, however, that the cookies will be slightly more brown that usual when they are baked from frozen.
